Addressable RAM in Vista

I’ve been looking to get a new laptop for a while now. Mine, while quite serviceable, is getting a little long in the tooth. The scare with the geforce 8400 and 8600m chips had me a little worried, and couple with the fact that the 9′ series chips are now available, I decided against the Dell XPS 1530 I’d been looking at. The current Macbook Pro’s suffer the same issue. Same specs, at $500 more and you are still going to have to update the RAM to something faster than 667 MHZ.

The laptop I’m currently looking at and have to the point of it sitting in my shopping cart at Newegg.com is an ASUS m50s … it comes with a 1gig ATI 3650 graphics card, 4 gig of RAM and a 500 gig HDD. Not bad specs at all and it’s also cheap. Now the issue is how much of that RAM is actually going to be usable?

According to the link below, only 3 gig or less of the RAM is going to be recognized in Vista 32bit. Guess I’ll have to upgrade to 64bit to let the beast of a machine spread it’s wings.

I’ll keep you posted.

Cheers,

Shane
