Ubuntu bash tips for Windows 10

I’ve been playing with the ubuntu bash system just released under preview for Microsoft’s Windows 10.

As an old debian sysadmin it warms the cockles of my heart to see Microsoft embracing open source. Thank you!

There are some issues with it being brand new and one of the first things  I wanted to get fixed was apt, so that installs and upgrades would just work.

copy+pasta-able version of canonical’s fix via @russalex

cat > /usr/sbin/policy-rc.d <<EOF
#!/bin/sh
exit 101
EOF
chmod +x /usr/sbin/policy-rc.d
dpkg-divert --local --rename --add /sbin/initctl
ln -s /bin/true /sbin/initctl

The above was a posted reply someone chased up with Canonical and it seems to work. Copying above for posterity or in case anyone else hits a similar problem.
