AT&T Shuts Down Screen Scraping Sites

It looks like ATT&T got sick of the screen scraping sites grabbing info for those waiting impatiently for their iPhone 3G’s. After a brief outage this morning the order status page was back up without the option to use your order number to check availability.

Whether or not sites like www.wheresmydamniphone.com can do anything other than give the same info as the order status page now I don’t know. I think it would be difficult if the order number has been removed as a key to search against.

I’m sure with many thousands of people hitting the sites many many times a day the ATT&T sites have been hammered, which would cause all sorts of server slow downs.

It was a fun ride, the forum thread is about to hit 600 pages and 6000 posts.

Quite amazing really!

Hope your iPhone 3G gets to you soon.

Kind Regards,

Shane
